Wookiees! Zombies! The Hoff! 12 Things We're Psyched for at Comic-Con

Time to let your geek flag fly!

Hanh Nguyen

It's that time of the year again, when a grown geek's fancy turns to thoughts of superheroes, collectibles and cosplay. Comic-Con has arrived.

From Thursday-Sunday, fans of every type will converge upon San Diego to celebrate their geektastic passions. Not able to make it this year? No worries! TVGuide.com will wade through the sea of Khaleesis, Stormtroopers and free hugs to give you the latest entertainment scoop. Here are 12 things we're looking forward to the most at Comic-Con:

14 times TV made the future terrifying and awesome

1. The droids we're looking for Lucasfilm and Disney have tantalized us over the last few months with Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser trailers, casting info and photos, but isn't it about time we got a full trailer in all of its galactic glory? We're not picky, J.J. Abrams. Just give us more of Han Solo, weird light saber fights, another glimpse of Gwendoline Christie's character Captain Phasma and the odd Wookiee or two. Short of that, the panel description promises unspecified "special guests" so maybe Christie herself, along with other cast members, can give us insight into what December will bring.

2. A systematic Jon Snow job Game of Thrones will have an even bigger presence at the Con this year thanks to the Game of Thrones Experience that lets fans learn to fight like Arya, get burned to a crisp by a dragon and become a White Walker (sounds like the Westerosi circle of life). At the panel, expect a lot of tap-dancing around the topic of Jon Snow's fate, especially since the panel usually remains spoiler-free and Kit Harington is absent anyway. Seth Meyers will take George R.R. Martin's place as moderator this year since the author is busy trying to bang out the rest of Book 6, but he won't be missed since the panel will boast a Stark family reunion (Maisie Williams, Sophie Turner), Alfie Allen, the aforementioned Christie, Liam Cunningham, Natalie Dormer, Conleth Hill, Hannah Murray and possibly the most hated lady in Westeros: Carice van Houten, who plays Melisandre.

3. Zombies in empire-waist gowns The Walking Dead and its spin-off Fear of the Walking Dead will no doubt get a lot of attention with their back-to-back panels, but we're also excited to finally see some footage of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, the film adaptation of the spoof novel that sets Jane Austen's ninja-skilled heroines against the undead. The utter lunacy of mashing up zombies and Regency England is balanced with a cast that boasts actors from Downton Abbey, Doctor Who and Game of Thrones.

4. Hassling The Hoff If you see David Hasselhoff in San Diego, it's not for a Knight Rider tribute, but something even better: The Hoff is going to sing! On Friday, we'll be ready to get hooked on his feeling when he performs "True Survivor," the song from the '80s-style action short film Kung Fury that was crowdfunded, premiered at Cannes and will be made into a feature-length film.

5. A Penguin infestation Since Marvel Studios won't be on hand this year to present its films (perhaps they're avoiding questions about an overdue Black Widow movie?), DC has the upper hand. On the film front, Ben Affleck will take his heartbroken self to Hall H to present Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. For television, a DC Saturday Night event will introduce Supergirl, DC's Legends of Tomorrow and the digital series Vixen, while also giving presentations for returning favorites Arrow, The Flash and Gotham. Speaking of that fine city, its resident Oswald Cobblepot will be seen when a horde of lookalikes waddle their way around the Gaslamp Quarter handing out his signature shades while throwing shade.

6. A very Sherlockian Christmas It will be one more year before we get another all-too-brief season of Sherlock, but until then, we can expect a Christmas Day special, set in Victorian London. Two years ago, showrunner Steven Moffat presented a Sherlock sneak peek, so we expect nothing less this time around. The game is afoot!

7. Groovy times with Ash Starz will present its new fall series Ash vs. Evil Dead, the latest addition to the horror-comedy franchise that was begun by Sam Raimi in the early '80s. Lucy Lawless will join original star Bruce Campbell (probably without his boomstick) on stage amidst a crowd of adoring fans who no doubt shop smart, shop S-Mart.

8. Redemption for Heroes "Save the cheerleader, save the world." If only NBC's original superpowered series had saved itself. After its first glorious season, the show quickly descended into a drawn-out, disjointed mess that somehow dragged on for four seasons before cancellation. With the new fall series Heroes Reborn, creator Tim Kring has a chance to recapture that original magic. On hand will be cast members Greg Grunberg (who will also moderate), Zachary Levi, Jack Coleman, Robbie Kay, Kiki Sukezane, Ryan Guzman, Gatlin Green, Henry Zebrowski, Judith Shekoni, Danika Yarosh, and Rya Kihlstedt. (Check out new character posters here.) Alas, no Masi Oka or Sendhil Ramamurthy, but we can comfort ourselves with yet more Heroes Reborn goodness with a 4-D interactive experience in the Gaslamp Quarter that lets us tap into our latent pyro-kinetic abilities. Ya ta!

9. Chumming around with The Hoff Yes! David Hasselhoff has made our list twice. The '80s icon will hold court along with fellow Sharknado 3 stars Ian Ziering, Tara Reid (will she go mano a mano so to speak with Evil Dead's Ash?), Cassie Scerbo, director Anthony C. Ferrante and writer Thunder Levin for a behind-the-scenes look at Syfy's latest masterpiece.

10. Farewell to Phineas and Ferb On Sunday, the beloved Disney series will seize the day by celebrating its four-season run that ended in June. The cast will be on hand to relive the stepbrothers' adventures, including those of their pet, Perry the Platypus. And if Dr. Doofenshmirtz doesn't spoil things, perhaps we might be treated to a sing-along and a sneak peek at the upcoming hour-long special coming this fall, The O.W.C.A Files, starring Perry as Agent P.

11. Horror a la Murphy Glee might be over but producer Ryan Murphy is still going strong with a double shot of horror Sunday. We'll go gaga if Lady Gaga (who's not on the schedule) makes a surprise appearance for the upcoming American Horror Story: Hotel, but at least we'll get Matt Bomer, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters. As for the new Fox series Scream Queens, set in a college sorority, original scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis will join co-stars Emma Roberts, Lea Michele, Skyler Samuels and Keke Palmer for all the shriek-tastic fun. For our own chance to scream, we'll head over to the Ultimate Scream Drop ride at the Petco Interactive Zone.

12. A bloody bastard While the Game of Thrones panel is light on bastards this year, we'll have to make do with FX's new seriesThe Bastard Executioner, from the bloody mind of Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter. The exclusive world premiere first look at the historical drama about a 14th century knight-turned-executioner will close out the Con.
